Insurance for moving companies.

Auto liability, household goods cargo, general liability, workers’ comp, and warehouse coverage, for local and long-distance movers and the buildings that want your certificate first.

A few quick questions, then we send you your price. Many trades get it in minutes.

What movers usually carry

  • Commercial auto liability
  • Household goods cargo
  • General liability
  • Workers’ comp
  • Warehouse legal liability
  • Hired and non-owned auto

Watch for these in a moving company policy

  • The cargo filingInterstate household goods movers must file proof of cargo coverage on the BMC-34, not just liability. Without it on file, the authority can be revoked.
  • Full value protectionFull value protection is a promise you make to the customer, not an insurance policy. Your cargo coverage has to be big enough to pay what you promised.
  • Goods in storageCargo covers goods on the truck. Furniture in your warehouse needs warehouse legal liability, since a fire there is not a cargo claim.
  • Floors, doors, and elevatorsDamage to the home or building while you carry furniture is a general liability claim. Buildings often require proof of it before they book the elevator.
  • Extra crew for the dayHelpers paid by the day usually count as employees for workers’ comp. An audit will find them, and lifting injuries are common in this work.

What building managers and customers ask movers for

  • Additional insuredMost apartment and condo buildings want the owner and manager named before move day.
  • General liability, $1M / $2MThe usual building requirement, sometimes with an umbrella on top.
  • Workers’ compMany buildings require it for every crew member who comes inside.
  • Cargo coverageCustomers moving high-value goods often ask what you carry before they sign.

Questions movers ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

What coverage do I need for long-distance moves?

Across state lines you need operating authority, auto liability on file with the federal government, and household goods cargo on file too. Local moves follow local rules, which vary.

Does my cargo policy cover boxes the customer packed?

Often only if the box itself was damaged. Many policies and moving contracts limit claims for contents you did not pack.

Can a building refuse my certificate?

Yes, if the wording or limits are wrong. Send us their requirements before move day and we match them.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
