Insurance for pest control companies.
A pest control liability form that covers pesticide claims, errors and omissions for termite inspections, commercial auto, and workers’ comp for technicians.
What pest control companies usually carry
- Pest control general liability
- Pesticide and herbicide coverage
- Errors and omissions, for inspections
- Commercial auto
- Workers’ comp
- Umbrella
Watch for these in a pest control policy
- The pollution exclusionA standard general liability policy treats the chemicals you apply as pollutants and excludes them. You need a form written for pest control that gives pesticide claims back.
- Termite workMany policies exclude termite and wood-destroying insect work unless it is listed, including damage that shows up after a treatment.
- Inspection reportsWood-destroying insect reports for home sales bring errors and omissions claims when damage turns up after closing. General liability does not answer them.
- FumigationTent fumigation is often excluded or written on its own policy. If you fumigate, it has to be listed.
- DriftSpray that drifts onto a neighbor’s garden, fish pond, or pets brings claims from people who never hired you. Check that your form covers damage off the treated property.
What property managers and builders ask pest control companies for
- Additional insuredProperty managers and builders ask to be named, including completed operations on termite pre-treats.
- Pesticide coverageCommercial accounts want to see that your policy covers the chemicals, not only slips and falls.
- Waiver of subrogationOn general liability and workers’ comp.
- Auto liabilityContracts often set a minimum for the trucks that carry your chemicals.
Questions pest control companies ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Why won’t a regular general liability policy work for pest control?
Because it excludes pollution, and pesticides count as pollutants. A pest control form gives back coverage for the chemicals you apply, which is the risk your clients care about.
Does insurance pay for repairs under my termite warranty?
Usually not. A repair warranty is a promise you sell, and liability policies are not built to fund it. They answer claims that your work damaged property or hurt someone.
How is pest control insurance priced?
Usually on payroll or revenue, your share of termite and fumigation work, the chemicals you use, and your claims.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
