- General liability
- Products liability
- Laser and equipment property coverage
- Equipment breakdown and spoilage
- Cyber liability
- Employment practices liability
- Workers’ comp
Watch for these in a med spa policy
- Physician oversightMost carriers want a named medical director and written protocols. Treatment given without the supervision your state requires may not be covered.
- Who operates the laserMany policies cover a laser treatment only when someone with the right credential performs it. An esthetician working outside scope can leave the claim uncovered.
- Injectors on the policyNeurotoxins and fillers are usually covered for the injectors named on the policy. Add a new nurse or injector before their first patient.
- Weight-loss shots and IV therapyMany med spa policies exclude weight-loss injections and IV hydration unless they are listed. Ask before you add either service.
- SpoilageA refrigerator failure can ruin your neurotoxin and filler stock overnight. Equipment breakdown with spoilage coverage pays for it.
What landlords and equipment lenders ask med spas for
- Additional insuredYour landlord, on general liability, for the suite you lease.
- Loss payeeLenders and lessors that financed your lasers, on the property coverage.
- Medical director coverageMany medical directors ask to be covered on the spa’s policy, because their own may exclude spa work.
Questions med spas ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Does my medical director’s malpractice cover the spa?
Usually not. Their policy covers their own practice. The spa needs its own coverage for its nurses, injectors, and estheticians.
Are laser burns covered?
Yes, under professional liability, when the treatment was within scope for the person performing it and the service is on the policy. Burns are among the most frequent med spa claims.
Do I need coverage for the skincare I sell?
Products liability answers if a cream or serum you sell causes a reaction. Private-label products carry more risk, because the law can treat you as the maker.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
