Insurance for food trucks.
Commercial auto, general liability, equipment, and workers’ comp for food trucks and trailers, with certificates for your commissary, festivals, and the city permit office.
What food trucks usually carry
- Commercial auto
- General liability, $1M / $2M
- Kitchen equipment and build-out
- Spoilage
- Workers’ comp
- Business income
Watch for these in a food truck policy
- Personal autoA personal auto policy almost never covers a food truck. A crash on the way to a stop can be denied outright.
- The kitchen insideInsure the truck at a value that includes the build-out. A value set on the vehicle alone leaves the fryer, fridges, and generator short.
- Parked versus drivingAuto liability answers while the truck is moving. General liability answers while you are parked and serving. Festivals ask for proof of both.
- Propane and fryersCarriers ask about propane tanks, lines, and the last inspection. A UL 300 suppression system over the fryer is often required.
- TrailersList a food trailer on your auto policy. Liability may extend from the truck that tows it, but damage to the trailer and its kitchen is covered only if it is scheduled.
What commissaries and event organizers ask food trucks for
- Commissary certificateYour commissary usually wants to be named as additional insured before you prep there.
- Festival certificatesOrganizers often want $1M / $2M, their name on the policy, and sometimes the city’s.
- Auto liabilityEvents and private lots often ask for a $1M combined single limit on the truck.
- Permit paperworkMany cities ask for proof of insurance with your mobile vending permit.
Questions food trucks ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
How is food truck insurance priced?
Auto is priced on the truck’s value, your driving records, and where it is parked overnight. General liability is priced on sales. Frying, propane, and the number of events move it too.
Can I get a certificate for a one-day festival?
Yes. Your policy stays the same all year. Each festival gets its own certificate naming the organizer, and the city when it asks.
Is my food covered if the generator dies?
Spoilage coverage pays for food lost when refrigeration fails or the power goes out. Many policies leave it off unless you ask, so check before a long event weekend.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
