What event venues usually carry

  • General liability, $1M / $2M
  • Host liquor or liquor liability
  • Property and business income
  • Assault and battery
  • Umbrella
  • Workers’ comp

Watch for these in an event venue policy

  • Host liquor or liquor liabilityHost liquor covers you when a renter brings the alcohol. Once you sell drinks or run the bar yourself, you need liquor liability.
  • Renters’ event insuranceRequiring every renter to buy a one-day special event policy naming you puts their policy first in line for their guests’ claims.
  • Outside vendorsCaterers, bartenders, DJs, and rental companies should each carry their own policy and name you. Without that, their mistakes land on yours.
  • Fights at receptionsAssault and battery is often excluded on venue policies, and late-night receptions are where those claims start.
  • Outdoor featuresFire pits, ponds, hayrides, and lawn games add injury claims, and some policies exclude named features. List everything guests can use.

What event clients and landlords ask event venues for

  • Additional insuredCouples and corporate clients ask to be named for the event date.
  • Liquor liabilityClients and caterers ask for proof when the venue runs the bar.
  • Primary and noncontributoryCorporate event contracts often ask for it, on CG 20 01.
  • Waiver of subrogationIf you lease the building, the owner usually wants one, plus additional insured status.

Questions event venues ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

How is event venue insurance priced?

Usually on the number of events and guests, your sales, and whether you serve alcohol, plus the value of the building and contents. Late-night events and outdoor spaces move it too.

Does my policy cover a wedding cancelled by a storm?

Business income applies only if the storm physically damages the venue. A couple who cancels over the forecast is a contract question, and your booking terms decide it.

Do vendors really need to name us on their certificates?

Yes. If a caterer’s food makes guests sick or a DJ’s cable trips someone, you want their policy to answer. Keep a current certificate for each vendor and check the dates before every event.

How fast can I get a certificate?

Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
