A few quick questions, then we send you your price. Many trades get it in minutes.

What coffee shops usually carry

  • General liability, $1M / $2M
  • Property and equipment
  • Equipment breakdown
  • Business income
  • Workers’ comp
  • Spoilage
  • Cyber

Watch for these in a coffee shop policy

  • Espresso machine breakdownProperty coverage pays when a fire ruins the machine, not when its boiler or control board fails. Equipment breakdown covers that, and often the sales you lose while it is down.
  • Roasting on siteA roaster changes how carriers see you. Chaff and exhaust fires are common, and many carriers ask how often the roaster and its ducts are cleaned.
  • Selling beans wholesaleBags of your beans on another store’s shelf are a product you make. That brings products claims, and the stores may ask to be named on your policy.
  • Adding hot foodA cafe that reheats pastries is rated very differently from one with a griddle under a hood. Add a kitchen without telling your carrier and you may be misclassified.
  • Sidewalk seatingTables on a public sidewalk usually need a city permit, and many cities ask to be named on your general liability.

What landlords and wholesale buyers ask coffee shops for

  • Additional insuredYour landlord, for claims on the premises you lease.
  • Waiver of subrogationCommon in retail leases, on property and general liability.
  • Vendor coverageGrocers and cafes that stock your beans may ask to be named as vendors, often on CG 20 15.
  • Products limitWholesale buyers often want $2M in products and completed operations aggregate.

Questions coffee shops ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

How is coffee shop insurance priced?

Mostly on sales, square footage, and equipment values. Roasting on site or cooking under a hood raises it; a counter that only brews and reheats keeps it simple.

Is a customer burned by a hot drink covered?

Yes, under general liability. Burn claims are among the most common in a cafe, so most cafes carry at least $1M per occurrence.

Do I need a different policy if I roast my own beans?

Sometimes. Roasting sits closer to food manufacturing, and some small business policies will not include it. Tell us the roaster’s size and how much you sell wholesale.

How fast can I get a certificate?

Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
