Insurance for youth sports leagues.
General liability, participant accident medical, abuse and molestation coverage, and directors and officers, for volunteer-run leagues, travel teams, and tournaments in baseball, soccer, basketball, and football.
What youth sports leagues usually carry
- General liability
- Participant accident medical
- Abuse and molestation coverage
- Directors and officers
- Hired and non-owned auto
- Equipment coverage
- Crime coverage for fees and fundraising
Watch for these in a youth sports policy
- Your sportEach sport is rated on its own. Tackle football, hockey, and lacrosse carry more injury risk, and some league policies leave them out.
- Head injuriesSome sports policies now limit or exclude concussion claims. Check yours, and follow a written return-to-play rule.
- Sideline fightsMany league policies exclude assault and battery. A shoving match between parents can leave the league paying its own defense.
- Tournaments you hostA tournament adds spectators, visiting teams, and concessions. Many policies need it listed with its dates.
- Coaches and screeningMany abuse policies require background checks on every coach and volunteer. A skipped check can put a claim at risk.
What field owners and school districts ask youth sports leagues for
- Additional insuredCities, park districts, and schools, for the fields and gyms you use.
- Accident coverageMany field permits and tournaments require participant accident coverage for every player.
- Abuse coverageSchool districts often want abuse and molestation coverage shown before they issue a permit.
Questions youth sports leagues ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
How does participant accident coverage work with a family’s health insurance?
It is usually excess: it pays deductibles and bills the family’s plan leaves, up to its limit. Families get help quickly, and fewer injuries turn into lawsuits.
Do volunteer coaches need their own insurance?
Not for league activity. A league policy usually covers coaches, managers, and volunteers as insureds while they act for the league.
Can board members be sued over team selection?
Yes, and over removing a coach or a player. Directors and officers coverage defends the board against claims over league decisions.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
