What clubs and associations usually carry

  • General liability
  • Directors and officers
  • Clubhouse property
  • Liquor liability
  • Crime coverage for dues
  • Hired and non-owned auto
  • Special event coverage

Watch for these in a club policy

  • Members as insuredsMembers are not always insureds under a club’s policy. Many policies need an endorsement to cover members acting for the club.
  • Injuries to membersSome club policies exclude injuries to members during club activities. Check before a hike, a race, or a tournament.
  • Tickets that include drinksFree drinks at a meeting are usually covered. Selling drinks, or selling tickets that include them, often needs liquor liability.
  • Members driving membersA chartered bus runs on the bus company’s insurance. When members drive each other to an outing, hired and non-owned auto protects the club.
  • One person on the accountA treasurer with sole access to the account is a common source of loss. Crime coverage pays back stolen dues; a second signer helps prevent it.

What hotels and venues ask clubs and associations for

  • Additional insuredHotels, halls, and parks you book, on your general liability.
  • Liquor liabilityVenues often require it when your event serves or sells alcohol.
  • Hold harmlessBanquet contracts often make the club answer for the venue’s losses. Your general liability picks up many of those promises.

Questions clubs and associations ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

Can officers be sued personally over club decisions?

Yes. Expelling a member, spending dues, or running an election can lead to claims. Directors and officers coverage defends the officers and the club.

We only meet once a month. Do we need insurance?

If you host events, hold money, or have officers making decisions, yes. Venues and parks will also ask for a certificate.

Is our clubhouse covered?

Only if your policy includes property. A club that owns its hall needs building and contents coverage; a club that rents usually needs contents and liability.

How fast can I get a certificate?

Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
