A few quick questions, then we send you your price. Many trades get it in minutes.

What IT consultants usually carry

  • Technology E&O
  • Cyber liability, first and third party
  • General liability
  • Crime, including client property
  • Business owner’s policy
  • Hired and non-owned auto
  • Workers’ comp

Watch for these in an IT consultant’s policy

  • One breach, every clientAn attack through your remote management tool can reach every client at once. Check that your aggregate limit could answer many claims from one event.
  • Liability you sign forClient contracts often make you pay their breach costs, whatever the cause. Most policies exclude liability you accept by contract beyond what the law would impose.
  • Service creditsRefunds, credits, and penalties you owe under a service level agreement are usually excluded. Cap them in the contract.
  • Injury and physical damageTechnology E&O usually excludes bodily injury and property damage, like a client tripping over cable you ran. That is why general liability stays on the list.
  • Hardware you resellSelling and installing equipment adds product liability. Many tech policies expect you to declare hardware sales and the revenue from them.

What enterprise clients ask IT consultants for

  • Tech E&O and cyber limitsEnterprise contracts often ask for $1M to $5M, sometimes as a separate limit for each.
  • Third-party crimeSince you have admin access, clients may ask for coverage for theft of their money or data by your staff.
  • Additional insuredOn general liability, and sometimes on cyber for claims tied to your services.
  • A security questionnaireMany clients send one with the contract. Your cyber application asks the same things, so keep the answers consistent.

Questions IT consultants ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

Do I need tech E&O and cyber, or just one?

Both. Tech E&O answers when your work fails a client. Cyber answers a breach of data or systems, yours or one you caused at a client. Many carriers sell them together in one policy.

Are my own systems covered if we are hacked?

Only under first-party cyber: forensics, data restoration, extortion demands, and lost income, often each with its own sublimit. Tech E&O covers claims against you, not your own loss.

How is tech E&O for an IT consultant priced?

On your revenue, your services, the size of your largest clients, and your own security, such as multifactor authentication and tested backups.

How fast can I get a certificate?

Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
