Insurance for graphic designers.

Professional and media liability, general liability, and equipment coverage for freelance designers and small studios, including the logo and font claims clients rarely think about.

A few quick questions, then we send you your price. Many trades get it in minutes.

What graphic designers usually carry

  • Professional liability (E&O)
  • Media liability
  • General liability
  • Computers and equipment
  • Cyber liability
  • Business owner’s policy

Watch for these in a graphic designer’s policy

  • Logos that look familiarA logo too close to an existing mark can bring a trademark claim against your client, and then you. Check that trademark, not only copyright, is in your coverage.
  • Font and stock licensesUsing a font or stock image beyond its license can bring an infringement claim and a demand for back fees. Media liability can answer the first; the fees are usually yours.
  • Print runsA typo on 20,000 brochures is a classic claim. E&O may pay the client’s reprint, but redoing your own design work is usually not covered.
  • Gear at homeA homeowner’s policy often pays little for business computers, tablets, and cameras, and less away from home. Equipment coverage follows them.
  • Client-supplied contentPhotos or text a client hands you can still infringe, and the claim may name you. Get written confirmation that they own it.

What agencies and clients ask graphic designers for

  • Your own E&OAgencies that hire freelancers often require it, so a mistake on their account is not theirs alone to pay.
  • A general liability certificateAgencies and larger clients often ask for $1M, with them named as additional insured, even for remote work.
  • Rights in the workContracts ask you to promise the work is original and yours to license. Media liability answers the infringement claim if that promise is challenged.

Questions graphic designers ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

Do freelance designers really get sued?

Yes, most often over missed deadlines, costly print errors, and logos or images that infringe. Even a claim without merit needs a lawyer, and E&O pays for one.

Does general liability cover a copyright claim?

Rarely. It covers only infringement in your own advertising, and many policies exclude businesses that design ads or websites for others. Media liability is built for it.

What limit should I carry?

Many freelancers carry $1M, since that is what agencies and larger clients usually ask for. If a contract names a higher limit, match it.

How fast can I get a certificate?

Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
