Insurance for furniture stores.
Property, general liability, commercial auto, and workers’ comp for furniture and mattress stores, including delivery crews, warehouses, and floor models a lender helps finance.
What furniture stores usually carry
- General liability, $1M / $2M
- Property and inventory
- Commercial auto
- Transit coverage
- Workers’ comp
- Business income
- Umbrella
Watch for these in a furniture store policy
- Delivery crews in homesScuffed walls and gouged floors during delivery are general liability claims. Damage to the furniture you are carrying is not; that is your own property.
- Stock on the truckFurniture on a delivery truck is often covered only up to a small in-transit limit, and only for a few causes like a crash or a fire.
- The warehouseA warehouse at another address must be listed on the policy. Stock kept there is often not covered otherwise.
- Tip-oversDressers that tip onto children are a known furniture claim. If you import or sell under your own name, you may be treated as the maker.
- Lifting injuriesMany furniture store comp claims come from delivery crews, not the showroom. Carriers ask about crew size, dollies, and stair carries.
What landlords and floor plan lenders ask furniture stores for
- Lender loss payeeFloor plan lenders ask to be named on the stock they finance.
- Additional insuredYour landlord, on general liability.
- Waiver of subrogationOn property and liability, in most retail leases.
- Full stock valueLenders expect your inventory limit to cover everything on the floor and in the warehouse.
Questions furniture stores ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
How is furniture store insurance priced?
Property is rated on stock, fixtures, and building. Liability is rated on sales. Delivery trucks, assembly in homes, and imported goods move it more than the showroom does.
Is assembly or wall mounting in a customer’s home covered?
Usually, under general liability, if your policy lists installation. A shelf that falls off a wall months later is a completed operations claim.
Do I need a separate policy for delivery trucks?
Yes. Trucks titled to the business need commercial auto, and the furniture inside needs transit coverage. Your store policy covers neither the trucks nor, beyond a small limit, what is in them.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
