Insurance for tutoring businesses.
Professional and general liability, abuse and molestation coverage, and cyber, for tutoring centers, test prep companies, and independent tutors who teach in homes, libraries, or online.
What tutors usually carry
- Professional liability
- General liability
- Abuse and molestation coverage
- Cyber liability
- Business property
- Hired and non-owned auto
- Workers’ comp
Watch for these in a tutoring policy
- Promised resultsPromising a score or an admission invites claims when it does not happen. Professional liability answers claims about your teaching, not a refund you promised.
- One-on-one sessionsTime alone with a student raises the risk of an abuse allegation. Many tutoring policies exclude abuse unless it is added.
- Sessions away from the centerA center-only policy may not follow tutors into students’ homes or libraries. Confirm coverage applies wherever sessions happen.
- Contract tutorsTutors paid on a 1099 may not be insureds on your policy. Many centers add them by endorsement or require their own policy.
- Recorded sessionsRecording online sessions with minors creates privacy exposure. Cyber coverage answers a breach of stored video or student records.
What school districts and landlords ask tutors for
- Abuse coverageDistrict tutoring contracts usually require sexual abuse and molestation coverage at a stated limit.
- CyberDistricts often ask vendors that store student data to carry cyber coverage.
- Additional insuredThe district or landlord, on general liability, for sessions on their property.
Questions tutors ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Can a parent sue me because grades did not improve?
They can try. Professional liability defends you against claims that your teaching fell short, even when the claim has no merit.
Do I need insurance if I only tutor online?
Yes. Online tutors still face professional and privacy claims. General liability matters less without a location, so the mix is different.
Does a school district contract need different coverage?
Often more of it. Districts may ask for higher limits, abuse coverage, cyber, and auto if you drive students. Send us the contract’s insurance page before you sign.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
