Watch for these in a childcare center policy
- Abuse and molestationMany general liability policies exclude it. Add it with its own limit; carriers will ask about background checks, supervision, and how staff report concerns.
- Discipline claimsAllegations of rough handling can fall under the intended-injury exclusion. Many childcare policies add corporal punishment coverage back to answer them.
- Transporting childrenA van for pickups or field trips needs commercial auto. Staff driving their own cars for the center leave it exposed without hired and non-owned auto.
- PlaygroundCarriers ask about equipment, fall surfacing, and inspections at almost every review. Keep inspection records ready.
- Illness closuresBusiness income pays after covered property damage, such as a fire or a burst pipe. A closure for an outbreak is usually excluded.

- Additional insuredLandlords, churches, and schools that host your center, on general liability.
- Abuse coverage shownHost churches and schools often want to see abuse and molestation coverage on the certificate.
- Auto limitsLicensing rules and contracts often set higher auto limits for vehicles that carry children.
Questions daycare owners ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Is abuse and molestation coverage required for a daycare?
Not always by law, but landlords, host churches, and many parents expect it. Without it, a single allegation can fall outside your general liability.
Does accident medical replace liability coverage?
No. Accident medical pays a hurt child’s bills regardless of fault, which often settles things early. Liability answers when a family claims the center was negligent.
Do part-time aides count for workers’ comp?
Yes. Every employee counts, part-time aides included. Lifting and back injuries are common in childcare, and most states require comp once you have staff.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
