Watch for these in a tattoo shop policy
- Piercing and laser removalMany tattoo policies exclude piercing or laser removal unless each is listed. Laser work is often written on a separate policy.
- Sterilization recordsAfter an infection claim, your autoclave spore tests, sharps logs, and signed consent forms are the defense. Many carriers ask about them before quoting.
- Disputed workA client who says the design is misspelled or not what they approved brings a professional liability claim. Refunding your own fee is usually not covered.
- Guest artistsA visiting artist working in your shop is often not covered by your policy. Get their certificate, or ask us about adding them before their first session.
What landlords and convention organizers ask tattoo shops for
- Additional insuredConvention organizers want to be named for the dates of the show.
- Professional liabilityMany shows ask for proof of tattoo professional liability, not only general liability.
- Certificate before setupMost organizers want it on file before you load in.

Questions tattoo shops ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Does tattoo insurance cover an allergic reaction to ink?
Under professional liability, it usually does. Keep the signed release, the ink brand and lot number, and your aftercare sheet, since that record is what defends the claim.
Am I covered when I tattoo at a convention?
Many shop policies cover you away from the shop, but some limit coverage to your address. Tell us which shows you work so the policy fits them.
How is tattoo shop insurance priced?
Usually on the number of artists, whether you pierce or do laser work, your revenue, and your claims.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
