Insurance for masonry contractors.

General liability, workers’ comp, commercial auto, and scaffolding and equipment coverage, for brick, block, and stone masons, including chimney repair and rebuilds.

A few quick questions, then we send you your price. Many trades get it in minutes.

What masons usually carry

  • General liability, $1M / $2M
  • Workers’ comp
  • Commercial auto
  • Scaffolding and equipment
  • Umbrella
  • Builder’s risk

Watch for these in a masonry policy

  • Chimney workA crack you miss in a flue can start a house fire years later. Some policies exclude chimney repair or relining unless it is listed, and chimney sweeping is often a separate class.
  • Walls down in the windA tall block wall that isn’t braced can blow over before it cures. Your general liability answers for what it lands on, not for laying the wall again. That is builder’s risk.
  • Scaffolding for othersPutting up scaffolding for other trades is a separate class from masonry, and some policies exclude it. If you rent out or erect scaffolds for others, list it.
  • Water behind veneerBrick and stone veneer without proper flashing and weeps lets water into the wall. Rot and mold claims follow, and some policies exclude water intrusion on residential work.
  • Your subcontractorsMany policies require certificates from every sub you hire, and uninsured subs get charged at audit.

What GCs and owners ask masons for

  • Additional insuredOngoing and completed operations for the GC and the owner, and sometimes the architect.
  • Scaffold rental termsScaffold companies usually ask to be named on your policy and make you responsible for their equipment.
  • Waiver of subrogationCG 24 04, plus workers’ comp and auto.
  • Per-project aggregateCG 25 03 on commercial work, giving each project its own aggregate.

Questions masons ask

Straight answers.

The questions we hear most, answered plainly.

Is chimney repair covered under a masonry policy?

Sometimes. Many masonry policies include it, but some exclude chimney and fireplace work or rate it on its own because of fire claims. It needs to be on your application.

Who pays if a block wall falls over before it’s finished?

Usually builder’s risk, if the project carries it. Your general liability covers what the wall damages, not the cost to build it again.

Do I need coverage for scaffolding I own?

Yes. Scaffolding, mixers, and saws need an equipment floater. Scaffolding you rent is usually your responsibility under the rental agreement, so cover rented equipment too.

How fast can I get a certificate?

Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.

Can I pay monthly?

Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
