- Workers’ comp
- Commercial auto
- Pavers, rollers, and equipment

Watch for these in a paving policy
- Street and highway workPolicies written for driveways and parking lots often exclude street and highway paving. Tell us before you bid a public road.
- Sealcoat tracked and sprayedSealer tracked into a store or sprayed onto parked cars is the most common sealcoating claim. Cones, tape, and posted notices are what underwriters want to hear about.
- Tank spillsA sealcoat spill from a tank trailer can fall under the pollution exclusion on both your auto and your general liability policy. Some auto policies can be broadened to cover it.
- Accessible parking stripingIf accessible spaces are striped wrong, the owner’s accessibility claim usually isn’t injury or property damage, so general liability may not answer.
- Drainage and iceA lot that holds water can ice over and bring slip-and-fall claims for years. That is completed operations, so keep it in force after the job.

Questions paving contractors ask
Straight answers.
The questions we hear most, answered plainly.
Is sealcoat on a customer’s car covered?
Usually, as property damage from your operations, unless your policy excludes overspray. Report it promptly, since policies bar you from settling on your own and asking to be repaid later.
Can my paving policy cover a city street job?
Usually not as written. Public street and highway work is its own class, often with bonding and permit requirements. Tell us before you bid one.
Do I need pollution coverage for sealcoating?
It is worth pricing. Sealers and fuel are pollutants under most policies, and a spill into a storm drain means a cleanup your general liability won’t pay for.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is bound, you request certificates from your client login, with the wording your contract asks for.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes. Most policies can be paid in full or monthly.
